Jake and chuck were on vacation in Scotland. Their wives, Nina and Sue, were with them. The two women did not have the slightest interest in hunting deer or fishing in freezing mountain streams. The two ladies had heard stories about fantastic bargains, so they decided to spend a few hours exploring the local junk shop.

The stories they had heard about the shop were true. The shelves were full of mementos and junk collected through the centuries. There were photos of unknown people, paintings of forgotten heroes and children. There were piles of model aircraft, trains, dollhouses, and other toys. It was a treasure house of souvenirs.

Unfortunately, most of it was simply junk and worth very much, in the end, Nina and Sue bought some silver knives and forks, two gold watches on chains for their husbands, and string of black beads.

When they got back to the hotel, their husbands were already there. Jake and Chuck had had a bad day. The weather had been awful. They had not seen a single deer or caught a single fish. And they did not like souvenirs. The silverware was badly tarnished. The watches did not work, and the beads were just ugly.

Imagine their surprise when they took the beads to a jeweler for cleaning. He explained that the beads were, in fact, black pearls worth thousands of dollars!

They could have belonged to some rich and noble lady centuries ago.
